What does hiring without resumes mean?
Hiring without resumes means selecting candidates on verified identity and demonstrated skill instead of self-reported paperwork. The employer sees who the person is, confirmed against a government ID, and sees the work itself on video before any interview is scheduled.
The resume is replaced by three things: a verified identity, a short intro video, and proof-of-skill media showing the actual task being performed. The applicant does not summarize the work. The applicant shows it. Resumes tell. Vetano shows.
Hire Without Resumes™ is the Vetano brand for this method. Vetano is the company that provides it.
What replaces the resume
Three things, all completed before a manager spends a minute on anyone.
- Government ID verification. Identity confirmed against a government ID before the person can apply.
- Intro video. A short video where the candidate speaks for themselves, in their own words.
- Proof-of-skill video. The actual task on camera, so you see what they can do before you meet.
How it works
- Post the job. One job post is $79 founding rate ($199 after Oct 31) for 30 days on the web, or post from inside the Vetano app on iOS and Android. Employers hiring more than once can subscribe from $149/mo ($299/mo after Oct 31).
- Share the link. Every job has its own link. It works anywhere you already reach people: text, social, in-store signage, or a QR code.
- Review proof. Each applicant arrives with a verified identity, a bio, an intro video, and proof-of-skill media showing the work.
- Hire with proof. Interviews confirm what you already saw instead of discovering it. You meet fewer candidates and know more about each one.
An applicant cannot apply on Vetano until their profile is complete. Completion requires government ID verification, a written bio, an intro video, and proof-of-skill media. Incomplete profiles cannot reach an employer. The employer defines what they want to see in the job post, and Vetano requires each applicant to submit media before they can apply. The requirements follow The 10-Factor Hire, our open standard for proof-based hiring.
Who it is for
Proof-based hiring fits roles where the work can be shown. Each of these has its own hiring hub on Vetano.
Resume boards versus verification-first hiring
| Mechanic | Resume boards | Verification-first hiring |
|---|---|---|
| What arrives with an application | A self-authored document and an optional cover letter. | A verified identity, an intro video, and proof-of-skill media. |
| What the employer reviews | Claims about past work, formatted for a parser. | The work itself, plus how the person communicates. |
| When identity is verified | After an offer, if at all. | Before the application can be submitted. |
| What the first interview does | Discovers whether the claims hold. | Confirms what the employer already saw. |
A resume is a self-authored summary of claims.
Self-authored: the applicant grades their own homework. Summary: lossy by design, it tells you someone managed a kitchen, not whether they can plate under fire. Claims: assertions, not evidence. The resume made sense when work history was unverifiable any other way. That constraint is gone.

Frequently asked questions
- What does hiring without resumes mean?
- Hiring without resumes means selecting candidates on verified identity and demonstrated skill instead of self-reported paperwork. Instead of reading claims, you watch proof.
- Why are companies dropping resumes?
- Because the resume stopped being reliable. Checkr's 2026 research found 49% of business leaders have extended an offer to a candidate who misrepresented their qualifications using AI tools. The FTC reports job scam losses grew from $90 million to $501 million in four years. Gartner projects 1 in 4 candidate profiles worldwide will be fake by 2028. The document was always self-reported. AI made it unverifiable.
- What replaces the resume?
- Three things, all completed before a manager spends a minute on anyone: government ID verification, an intro video, and a proof-of-skill video. You see who the person is and what they can do, in their own words and on camera.
- Does skills-based hiring work without verification?
- Usually not. Harvard Business School and the Burning Glass Institute studied 11,300 hires at companies that dropped degree requirements. Only 1 in 5 meaningfully changed who they hired. Most managers had no way to verify skills, so they fell back on credentials. Dropping the paperwork only works when something stronger replaces it.
- Is a job posting that doesn't ask for a resume legitimate?
- It depends on whether anyone is verified. Job scams grew fivefold in four years, and applicants have learned to treat unverified postings with suspicion. Verification protects both sides: employers see government-ID-verified applicants, and applicants see a verified business behind the posting.
- Which jobs is this built for?
- Restaurants, salons and barbershops, skilled trades, automotive, home healthcare, and hospitality. These roles were never truly resume roles. What matters is licenses, skill, and whether someone shows up, and those are things you can verify and watch.

The largest employers in the country responded to AI-era candidate fraud by going back to in-person interviews. Small businesses cannot fly candidates in. Vetano gives them the same certainty: verified identity and demonstrated skill before the first conversation.
